Based in Nicaragua. Exploring its cigar heritage firsthand.
Nicaraguan Cigars is an independent publication about the cigars of Nicaragua: where they come from, how they are made, the families who make them and the culture around them.
What we do
We are based in Nicaragua. Our aim is simple: to give cigar lovers careful, well-researched information about Nicaraguan cigars, and to celebrate a craft the world has come to admire. Our stories draw on published sources (magazines, the makers themselves and official records), and each fact links back to where it came from.
We are also starting to report what we see for ourselves. Our visit to Doña Elba Cigars in Granada is our first piece of original reporting, with our own photographs and video from the rolling room.

How we work
- Sources first. Facts come from sources we cite on the page. When sources disagree, we say so, or we leave the fact out.
- Firsthand, clearly labelled. Original photographs and video are marked as ours. What we observed in person is kept separate from what we read elsewhere.
- No inventions. We never make up interviews, quotes, awards or visits.
- Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See our corrections page.
Independence
We are not a shop, and we do not sell tobacco. Nothing on this site is paid placement: no maker, brand or retailer pays to be featured. If we have any relationship with a company we write about, such as photos it lets us use or work done for it, we say so openly on that page.
Who is behind it
Nicaraguan Cigars is written and photographed by a small editorial team in Nicaragua. Read our methodology and editorial policy, or get in touch.
